How To Keep Your Home In Tip-Top Shape During El Nino
4 El Nino Home Maintenance Tips
Maintain Your Yard
During this winter’s El Nino season it’s especially important to keep your yard looking nice. That means regularly picking up leaves and any trash around the yard. Doing so is not only visually appealing but it can also help prevent plants from freezing overnight. Wet leaves will freeze quicker and as a result cause plants in the yard to freeze. In addition, wet leaves rot quicker in turn causing plants to rot as well. We work hard to maintain our garden so you wouldn’t want all that hard work to be a lost cause.
Protect Gutters And Downspouts
Don’t forget to thoroughly clean gutters and downspouts during this year’s El Nino season. Home improvement experts suggest doing this before the start of the rainy season and after the first rain. If you haven’t already done so it’s critical you do this now. While cleaning out gutters, be sure to check for any breaks. Also, it’s important that gutters are set close against the roof line.
Clean Up Any Mold And Mildew Immediately
Mold is not a problem you want to have. It can not only be difficult to get rid of, but it can be costly to fix as well. If moisture gets under the roof, it can begin to slowly deteriorate causing mold issues and/or leaks. The best way to prevent this from occurring is to keep moisture at bay. If you suspect moisture is getting under the roof, be sure to take the proper measures to prevent any further moisture.
Store The Essentials
During El Nino season erosion can be a problem. Be sure to check your home for any evidence of issues and take care of them right away. Also, just in case of emergencies its a good idea to stock up on storm prevention materials such as sandbags, concrete edgers, and straw-waddle tubing. These materials can help to diverge water away from a building and into a storm drain.
